This is a simple DIY GPS device.
A way to improve the size would be to surface mount the components. Well, at least the chips, and perhaps use horizontal (or no) connectors. And also figure out some smart way of positioning the serial connector. Still, the largest part right now is the battery so the size reduction would not be too big.
The external antenna is a thing I don't really like. A GPS module with a built-in antenna would be nice to use instead. In terms of software improvements, a (extremely simple) map would have been really useful, but it is unfortunately pretty costly regarding CPU power, memory and development.
