Kurtis Berry sent in his response to all the ipod speaker docks out there. Instead of buying one, he built one. It's really a combination of several projects, and it looks great.

[Dyer13] sent in his Zune antenna mod. It's a simple one, but we haven't seen too many Zune mods yet. It's really just a matter of adding more surface area to the transmitter.

[Jonas] sent in a surprisingly retro concept given the number of small cheap funky video recorders on the market. He built his own. At the heart is a sony Digital8 recorder, combined with a security camera and a SLR lens.

Our loyal reader [Everett] has hacked up a CVS single-use camcorder to use as a nightvision scope. This is his second prototype. The first one only had 4 cruddy IR LEDs from Radiohut and a front mounted battery pack.

[lgbsneak] found a good source of pre-amps to fill his needs. Some older receivers, like his old Kenwood KA-305 have modular pre-amps. So it's just a matter of ripping out, powering it up and tossing it into an enclosure.

These iPod cases, made from cassette tape shells and 45 record vinyl, are commercial items, which cost US$45 each, but it'd be a cinch to replicate something similar, if you'd rather roll your own.

The Vienna chapter of Dorkbot did a video of their last meeting, focused on game machine hacking. The hacks range from refurbishing and computerizing an analog pinball machine, to an electric guitar casemod (the NES Paul), to making music with the Nintendo DS.
