MAKE will be at HOPE (Hackers on Planet Earth, July 18-20). We will be doing talks, having a mini-Maker Faire and I think this going to be one of the biggest tech-hardware-hacking conferences of the decade - here's an announcment about the RFID they'll be using during the event!

Here at Make, we like projects that re-imagine old tech into new forms and constructions. Although the "Portable Cellular Phone Booth" project by Nick Rodriguez may seem completely insane to most people, it's a pretty interesting take on the one problem that keeps coming up when you use your cell phone in public spaces.

Erica Sadun put together a great tool for iPhone users who'd like to keep tabs on their iPhone's location. Instead of GPS tracking, a small binary called 'findme' is used to geolocate the device based on nearby cell towers.

This MCU based flood monitoring system will send you an SMS when water levels get too high. The only thing we wonder about is what happens when water levels rise too fast and smother the electronics in this setup before the phone can alert you.
