We already know that Google is expecting big things out of its open source Android operating system for 2009. More smartphones are being announced that will be using the OS and T-Mobile already expects to move more of its mobile phones to Android.
The public has a growing fascination with the OS and Android is extending its reach into other product categories. Dell was outed last week as readying a netbook running Android and HP is considering the OS for its netbooks as well. You can bet once one of the major computer makers jumps on Android for netbooks, the others will soon follow.
Research firm Strategy Analytics is right with Google and expects the Android OS to grow by a massive 900% this year. The second fastest growing OS is the iPhone OS expected to grow 79% in 2009. If someone can make a smartphone that is as cool and functional as the iPhone running Android, that would be the magic bullet Android needs.
