One of the problems with mobile Internet access is that each person or PC needing access to the Internet on the go usually needs it own portable modem or tethered cell phone. A new device from Cradlepoint called the PHS300 Personal Hotspot offers Wi-Fi connectivity to multiple devices with one tethered mobile phone or cellular modem.
The device tethers to a cell phone with broadband access or a cellular USB modem and provides 802.11b/g Wi-Fi connectivity to users in the area. The device also has a built-in firewall and uses WEP/WPA security.
Power for the router comes from an internal Li-ion battery. The router can also charge your handset while it is tethered or it can power a USB modem. Using this device one cellular broadband modem can provide multiple users with fast Internet connectivity.
