Hand Talk Glove – Talk to the hand

Hand Talk Glove – Talk to the hand

Ever wondered what the mute friend in your office tells his best friend? Wanted to learn sign language but couldn't find the time to join a training session. A group of researchers Carnegie Mellon University have come up with the Hand Talk Glove. Sensors in the glove pick up gestures and transmit the data wirelessly via Bluetooth to a cell phone which runs a Text to Speech software. The sensor data are converted first into text and then to voice output. A person not knowledgeable in Sign language can listen.

The motivation for this concept is to enable the communication between deaf persons and persons that do not have knowledge of the Sign language. This is the first demonstrator model to show the functionality based on a limited vocabulary of 32 words which is not bad for a version number of v0.1. I feel this is a brilliant idea to get a more hospitable environment fro our deaf/mute friend to work in.
