First Impressions of the Epson Home Cinema 1080UB always seem to be good, quite possibly due to the exquisite quality of the projector and its many features. Initial impressions of this device are that it measures around 4.8 x 15.6 x 12.8 inches and weighs about 12 pounds. The white color of the projector works particularly well with a ceiling mount and integrates well with its environment. During the initial burn-in process, the projector emitted a smell similar to burning plastic, according to Epson this is normal and passes over some hours of use. The remote on the device is easy to use and settings were also easy to customize.
According to the reviewer, I only wish they had done the same with the Brightness, Color and Tint settings, but the menus were pretty simple for these options so getting in and out to do the adjustments wasn’t so bad. During the testing of the Blu-ray disc player, a Silicon Optix HQV test disc yielded the following result: On the 1080 UB projector, this test pattern was rock solid with no strobing and single pixel high horizontal lines appearing exactly as expected. To finalize, the 1080UB is impressive and has great detail, especially from HDTV broadcasts in 1080i, and Blu-ray Disc movies. The price of this projector is around $2,699.
