Soon after Vostro 1310 and 1510 went official, Dell made available their elder sibling, the Vostro 1710. The 17" notebook computer is a decent machine for everyday computing. The Vostro 1710 comes in three versions. The $800 version buys you an Intel Celeron M 550 (2.0GHz) processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, DVD burner, and GMA X3100, while the more expensive model ($1,128) gets you an Intel Core 2 Duo T5670 (1.8GHz) chip, 2gig RAM, 250GB hard drive, 1.3 mega pixel webcam, and 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics card.

And if you're looking for more powerful specs, then you can add C2D Penryn T9300 (2.5GHz), 4GB RAM, Vista Ultimate, 640GB 5400rpm HDD, a/b/g/n wireless, Bluetooth, and Trusted Platform Module 1.2. This configuration will set you for about $2,261.
