This spunky little robodude is a Panasonic Evolta promotional mascot. He’s 17 centimeters tall and weighs 130 grams, and his reason for existing is summed up nicely in this picture… The two batteries on his back (Panasonic Evolta batteries, of course) were enough to power him up 1700 feet of vertical rope dangling over a cliff into the Grand Canyon.

There's certainly no shortage of efforts out there aimed at improving our interaction with robots, but this latest project from the University of British Columbia is a bit different than most, with it focusing exclusively on haptics as a means of making our relationships with robots more "emotionally rewarding.

Things are looking good for the Phoenix lander which touched down on Mars at 4:53pm on Sunday, May 25. The NASA nerds are reporting an almost perfect landing, with the spacebot tilted only one quarter of a degree.

Ain't nothing like a good robot-related publicity stunt to get the heart poundin on a Sunday. For your consideration, Panasonic's offered up a small 7-inch robot powered by EVOLTA AA cells, which willingly participated in a nearly seven hour rope climb of more than 1,700 vertical feet of sheer Grand Canyon expanse.

Not only will you get a live video feed from their site, but apparently Mission Control ops will be liveblogging the touchdown and ensuing alien encouners / totally boring rock digging.

Budding robot-builders certainly don't have any shortage of kits to choose from these days, but this new self-descriptive ROBO Builder set looks to be a good deal more complete than most and, compared to the norm, is somewhat more reasonably priced.

Getting robots to walk on two legs at all is certainly not easy, but getting them to walk like humans is harder. When humans walk, we shift our balance in such a way so that we’re constantly falling forward a little bit.
