A microprocessor can easily generate 1-Wire timing signals if a dedicated bus master is not present. This application note provides an example, written in C, of the basic standard speed 1-Wire master communication routines.

Pin-count or wire quantity sometimes prove to be a limiting factor in a design. The circuitry presented here can allow for reduced count of these things by allowing pins or wires to operate in a full-duplex mode.

In this small example the left pic has a counter and sends the value of that counter over one single wire to the other pic. After the counter value has been received by the pic on the right hand side it sends it on to the PC using a regular serial connection.
