XAVIEN: Single and Dual stage rocket timers

A co-worker of mine wanted a small timer that ranged from 1s to 15s depending on what the user selected. They wanted to use a set of 4 dip switches to select the time. Needed to be as small as possible (weight being very critical) and run off of a 9V battery.
Needed 2 failsafes to prevent accidental ignition of the second stage of the rocket. The following information is the end product of those requirements.

The great thing about this project was that it allowed me a reason to buy a few rockets to experiment with.

I purchased 3 rockets and have flown them each about 10 times. All 3 rockets are from ESTES since their engines are the easiest to get at the local hobby shop. Of course my son Xavier loves launching them. The first time he did, that was it, now he thinks he is a “Captain” because he launches rockets! Kids are great!

The blue rocket (“TIDALWAVE”) has a maximum altitude of 600FT. using an ESTES “C6-5” engine. The red and white rocket (“HEATSEEKER”) has a maximum altitude of 800FT. using an ESTES “C6-7” engine. The small rockets (“X-RAY”) has a maximum altitude of 500FT. using an ESTES “A10-3T” engine
